SURF TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR ALL
In this section of fit2surf.com we will be putting stacks of surf training programmes together for all levels of fitness and surfing abilities.
There are so many ways for surfers to boost there surfing strength speed and stamina. Many surfers don’t have the sea on the doorstep and the luxury of jumping on every bit of swell that hits our coast line on a weekly basis. If you’re truly passionate about surfing and you’re fed up of a low wave count, taking ages to paddle out, and just not surfing to your full ability then it’s time to adopt a surf fitness program with will restore your faith in wave riding!
A well balanced training program will ensure that your fitness is slowly improved and not left to stagnate due to lack of progression. Following a basic training program is also important for overall body strength development and important for muscle strength and balance.
For example if a surfer was to just train one area of his surfing then there is a good possibility that the rest of his surfing would suffer. If you only train your legs and not your upper body then don’t expect your upper body strength to improve!
If you’re struggling to paddle out it may mean your aerobic fitness is low. Seen the Powerstroke?
If you have a problem with your pop ups then you may wish to adopt a plyometrics training program to boost your explosive power. Many surfers only get to surf at weekends or a couple of times a month, this type of training can be of great benefit if you’re a land locked surfer!
Got a problem with stiffness this may mean that you need a good post flexibility program. Post flexibility programmes can leave you totally refreshed and ready for another day and aid in injury prevention.
