Visualisation Techniques for surfers
Visualisation Techniques for surfers
The skill of visualising sporting movements just before completion can take a bit of practice however once you’ve
got over the basics the benefits will truly boost your surfing performance.
Many athletes across the world use visualisation techniques to boost their performance.
And it’s not just for pro surfers!
In fact many surfers do it routinely without even realising
it just before a free surf or comp, visualisation training can help sharpen the
brain and create mental awareness before hitting the water.
The process is simple, you think about a move you want to do
well at and then break it down in your mind over and over again, this then
prepares the brain for the movements that will follow.
This type of training can take place the day before a major
comp, or just minutes before you paddle out, what is know is that it defiantly
works in preparing the body for performance, and most top surfers will at some
point use it.
Examples could be to think of a comp the night before and
work on movements that you need to excel on like your back hand or cut back,
picture yourself doing that move, even try to break it down bit by bit in your
mind.
If you’re a competing surfer and you have an upcoming heat
find yourself a quiet corner way before your call up time, go over all that you
want to achieve even picture what the surfing conditions are like that day, how
your body will feel through that move and what possible scenarios might occur.
