Terminology
What’s it all mean!
(ROM)= range of movement
Dynamic mobility =Controlled rhythmical movement
Ligaments= Connective tissues used to bound bones together
Tendons= used to attach bones to muscle
Hyaline cartilage = most abundant cartilage in the body
Elastic cartilage = which helps maintain the shape of certain organs
Repetition= the number of times you lift and lower
Set= the number of times you perform repetitions of a given exercise
Static stretches = a stretch taken to its furthest point and held
Erector spine= this is a group of three muscles from your neck to your lower back
A neutral spine= good spinal and body alignment (good posture)
Joint mobility = joint movement
Flexibility = the range of movement through a limb
Reaction time = the delay between the sensing of an impulse and a resulting movement
Posture = the body’s carriage or bearing
Proprioception= this is the ability to sense joint positions and to be aware of body positioning and body movements.
Dynamic Ball exercises= A dynamic exercise that requires you to move while maintaining a stable trunk or core
Transverse abdominals= the core muscles of the abdominals and back and also the muscles of the pelvic floor and hips
Developmental stretches = stretching or the muscles aimed at increasing general flexibility and usually performed at the end of exercise or surf
Muscular Endurance= the ability of a muscle to continue working or exercising without fatigue
Muscular strength = the amount of force that can be exerted by a muscle or a group of muscles.
Overload= A demand that exceeds normal capacity
Resistance= the impending, slowing or stopping effect exerted by something on a part of the body
Vestibular system = part of the inner ear which aids balance.
